How to set up WooCommerce to Klaviyo

Here is the whole setup for connecting WooCommerce to Klaviyo, so you know what to have ready before you start. Most of it takes a few minutes in Klaviyo and in WooCommerce.

1. Create a private API key

In Klaviyo open Settings, API keys and create a private key with permission to write profiles, lists and subscriptions. Then open the list and copy its list ID from the page address.

2. Find your WooCommerce fields

Decide which order status sends the data: Processing (payment received) or Completed (order fulfilled). Ora maps billing first name, last name, email, phone and company from the order.

3. Map profile properties and consent

Klaviyo profiles are matched by email. Standard details such as first name, last name and phone are built in, and anything else becomes a custom property. Property names are case sensitive.

4. Describe it to Ora

5. Test on the practice site

Place a test order on the practice site using Cash on Delivery or a 100 percent coupon, move it to your chosen status, then check Klaviyo. Open Profiles in Klaviyo and search for the test email. Check the list, the properties and the consent status, then check any flow that should start.

Common snags:

Subscribing someone needs their consent. Tie it to a checkbox, or Klaviyo can refuse the request.
Suppressed or unsubscribed profiles stay that way, so test with a fresh address.
Custom property names are case sensitive, so Plan and plan become two properties.
